  • Sector: Grocery retail
  • Mission: Shopfitting

On the outskirts of Halmstad on Sweden’s west coast lies ICA Maxi Flygstaden, a hypermarket that has renovated several departments over the past two years. The ambition has always been to create a well-considered whole to make everyday life simpler – for customers and staff alike.

This has been such a fun project and we’re very proud of it here at Intrx. The store is a good example of what happens when functionality and innovative design come together.

During the renovation work, Intrx has been involved from the initial concept and sketch to the finished installation of the shop fittings. The collaboration with ICA Maxi Flygstaden has been an important factor in realizing the store’s visions – both functional and visual. Martin Nord works in sales for food retail at Intrx, and he has been in charge of the overall project:

“A close collaboration with the store has resulted in well-thought-out interior design solutions that take into account quality and the work environment. It was important for the store to have a timeless design and generous customer spaces.”

One important tool during the work was the 3D visualizations, which capture all the details of the store in terms of interior furnishing and potential customer flows. These visualizations were created by Mari Fridlund, a designer at Intrx:

“Each department has its own challenges, both in terms of how individual products are displayed, and accessibility for customers and staff. With visualizations, we can resolve these challenges at an early stage.”

ICA Maxi Flygstaden is now complete, and the store has open spaces and an interior that exudes the feel of a market hall and artisanal food. Dark colours are a common theme throughout the store, with functional shopfitting that showcases the many individual products.

“This has been such a fun project and we’re very proud of it here at Intrx. The store is a good example of what happens when functionality and innovative design come together,” Martin Nord concludes.
